Crowdfunding. Crowdfunding. Crowdfunding. It’s on the tip of everyone’s tongues, but what can it really do for you and your cause?

Spring Giving has been exploring this new online fundraising model, which allows individuals and organisations to call out to a mass audience, usually leveraging tech social networks, to appeal for funding for causes, projects and ideas.

Our Insight Report Crowdfunding: the wisdom and wallets of crowds, published today, explains the basics of crowdfunding and its history, offers tips on how to run a successful campaign and gives a range of case studies and links for further exploration and debate.

Download it today and share with us your views and experiences. We see our thoughts on the subject as far from definitive, so please do share with us your views on this emerging fundraising area …

  1. Hello

We would also like to point out Buzzbnk, a crowdfunding platform that helps charities and social enterprises raise both donation, rewards and loan based crowdfunding the UK. We can also help registered charities collect UK Gift Aid where applicable.

We launched in January 2011 and have helped raise over £340,000 for 33 social ventures, of which close to half has been loan based and the other half donation/rewards based.

Buzzbnk is a NESTA Innovation in Giving awardee, as well, we have been accepted in the Business in the Community Arc programme for social enterprises and recently feature in the UK Top 100 Start-ups.

Buzzzbnk is itself a social enterprise, with a social purpose to help develop the social enterprise sector including helping grow the social investment market.

    Kind regards,
    Theresa Burton
    CEO & Co-founder

    Hi Theresa,

    Thanks for your message.

We are very much aware of the excellent work that Buzzbnk are doing in this space, and have showcased your work before; for example, in this blog that Michael kindly wrote for us back in October, which we published on the Spring site:

    http://www.spring-giving.org.uk/2011/10/crowdfunding-enabling-communities-to-mobilise-funds-for-community-enterprise/

Sorry not to have mentioned you in our latest report, it wasn’t a deliberate omission … there are lots of platforms and organisations in the crowdfunding and donations processing space, so Spring Giving is currently working on a database to catalogue and showcase them all equally … watch this space for more on that to follow.

    Best wishes,

    Harry
